New PicBasic Pro Compiler

The PicBasic Pro Compiler has most of the features our customers have been asking us for: BASIC Stamp II commands, using pins on PORTA, C, D, E, as well as PORTB, and the capability of using more RAM and program space. A list of the new features and commands appear below.

Variable types:

PicBasic Pro Instruction Set:

Functions / Operators:

The PicBasic Pro Compiler does not have the same level of compatibility with the BASIC Stamp I that the PicBasic Compiler enjoys. The PicBasic Pro Compiler is more of a "real" BASIC.

The current PicBasic Compiler is highly compatible with the BS1 programming language. If you want maximum compatibility, or you would like to save a little money, or you just don't need the extra features, then by all means buy the current PicBasic Compiler.

The PicBasic Pro Compiler is a separate product from our PicBasic Compiler. We are continuing to sell and maintain the current PicBasic Compiler.

Dear Justin,
We are having great success with the PBasicPro setup. It pretty much
works as advertised, and makes development a dream. The best part from
our point of view is you can easily mix assembly code with basic. For
example, in a heart-rate monitor just completed, I did the messy stuff
(convert millisecond count into beats-per-minute) in basic with:

bpm = 60000 / ms

This lets the compiler do all the nasty 32-bit math, and lets you get
on with life! Also, it seems very efficient in generating compact
code. You might check that it supports your PIC of choice; we have
been using the 16F84 so far, but I am anxious to try the higher-end
chips as well. Highly recommended!

Cheers, Charles Ward CWE, Inc.

I have had very good results with the MELabs PicBasic Pro Compiler.
When I called them to purchase it, I told them that I have a Parallax
programmer and asked if it would work or if I needed to purchase their
programmer.  The guy that I spoke with was very honest and told me
that I didn't need to spend the money to buy their programmer.  I have
been using the PicBasic Pro software with the Parallax programmer and
I think it is great.  Maybe I'm not using some of the functionality
that others are.  I'll admit that I am not a heavyweight programmer
but, for my application, It has worked very well and I recommend it.

The program is written using the registered version of Mr. Dunfield's excellent Micro C for PC, v3.14. 2. What is the Program Good for? I purchased the PicBasic compiler, and recently the PicBasic Pro also. The compiled program is to be burned with the Parallax Programmer, accompanied with the software SPEP 4.7. However, it was my problem that the device type is not set when I load the compiled hex file, and it was inconvenient always to press the key D (maybe ^D) to position the right chip type. That's why decided to overcome this problem. The program has the following functions: A. Converts the .HEX program (default for PicBasic) to .OBJ (default for SPEP) B. During conversion it inserts the device identification record so the SPEP recognises the chip type during load C. (Optionally) you can insert the user ID information. D. The syntax and the integrity of the .HEX file will be tested; incorrect files are rejected. 3. How to do it? The program is a command line utility with the following interface: HEX2OBJ -h you get some help. HEX2OBJ -pxxx file[.HEX] where xxx is the device number (e. g. 622, F84 or 14K). There should be given exactly as in the menu of SPEP shows it. Optionally, you can set the ID with the DOS command set ID=xxxx where xxxx is a 4-character string (7-bit), to be specified as processor ID. The program then reads the given .HEX file, and creates a new .OBJ file (old .HEX file remains untouched, however, old .OBJ files are replaced). 4.
