Hi Don. I just wanted to let you know that I placed an order for the
P16Pro software with you. One again thank you so much for offering great
stuff at excellent prices. BTW I received my #96 PIC Programmer kit from
you last week. All I can say
is "It's GREAT". It was a snap to assemble and an incredible value!
Thanks for the speedy shipping to the USA.
Take Care Ken
Hi Don. Finally found a couple of hours to myself away from the
family and had some fun putting together the pic programmer kit.
VERY VERY easy to do. The kit itself is great, packaged neatly, and an
excellent PCB. It performed flawlessly the first time. Many thanks
for offering this fine product. Take Care. Scott Arnold.
Don,
The programmers came in today...I am really impressed that I can place
an order to Australia and the product is drop shipped from China in less
than 10 days. It's about time someone can deliver what they say!
The kit looks simple and complete. I will finish them tonight and keep
you posted for future orders. Thanks again from a satisfied customer,
Fred Bonilla

Dear Don,
I just thought I would let you know what I think of your DT001
Board. I found it to be the best printed circuit board I have seen
in many years; the quality of manufacture, the silkscreening, the layout,
and the ease of assembly (everything fits exactly in the holes provided
- no bending or squashing to make things fit). Well Done!

I don't think I sent you an email saying how impressed I was - the whole process was prompt, efficient and faultless! Many thanks! Regards, Rafe Aldridge
From Australia, Aug-98. Subject: Re: help should i build my own programmer or buy one Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 20:10:07 -0700 From: Graeme Odgers graemeo@TRIODE.NET.AU Reply-To: pic microcontroller discussion listLECTRIC LINKS - Electronics Related LinksTo: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Hi John, I am a TAFE teacher at Bankstown Technical College in Sydney, so my application is somewhat different to production applications. There are a number of reasons for building a cheap programmer: 1. Cost effective for small scale applications. Most students do not have the money to spend on fabricated units 2. TAFE does not have the resources to make programmers available in bulk for students. We are lucky to have one unit for a class as most moneys goes to beuracratic overheads 3. To maintain a learning atmosphere of interest and application it is desirable that students have equipment that is portable and can be used at home or work to aid in project design and construction. 4. The Simmstick product and similar units, offer a high degree of portability and hence experimentation. 5. At the end of the course the students walk away with a unit they can continue to use. 6. I have found that students will always put in extra study and effort when the application can be directly applied to personal interests. 7. Software can be obtained at little or no cost from internet resources for units such as the Dontronics DT001 depending on the students needs, assembly, PICBasic, CCS 8. Its highly motivating and fun to construct and design a unit that will work first time. Hope this explains my point of view and encourages other students reading the list to "giveitago" Regards, Graeme Odgers =============================================================== From Australia, Aug-98. I have used these myself and have found them very useful and excellent value :- 1) SLI (Serial LCD Interface) from WIRZ Electronics. This is a simply brilliant product for anyone doing any work with serial devices on PICs, PCs or whatever. A great deal of thought and some clever software has obviously gone into the design. 10 out of 10 to Mr Wirz. {Note *** Although the kit is from Wirz Electronics, I must point out that the design is by Myke Predko of Canada. Ben Wirz was involved in some initial beta testing as were other DonTronics and SimmStick dealers. Ben had the foresight to grab and promote the product for distribution. (Don...)} 2) The SIMM Stick DT001 Programmer and SIMM (DT) PCBs from DONTRONICS. Initially I thought the SIMMstick concept was a bit gimmicky until I started using it. The programmer works extremely well and the SIMM cards are great to use. The flexibility of the SIMM concept makes prototying a breeze (and enjoyable). The blank PCBs are a giveaway at the prices DON charges for them. 3) PICOSAURUS from FOREST ELECTRONIC DEVELOPMENTS. For those not familiar, this is a PIC16C74 (40 Pins) which has FED Basic programmed into it. It is like a GIANT STAMP, with 8 channel A-D and a Real Serial UART. It includes a Windows Based Development Environment to develop programs and program the chip, like the STAMP, but MUCH MUCH better and MANY MANY more features. I have just learnt to use this (last week) and within two days have completed and debugged a test unit which characterises NiCad Cells. This device drives four relays, an LCD, uses the A-d, drives a controlled current source, and sends results to a PC for logging and charting. I am a TERRIBLE programmer, so if I can do this in two days, anyone can do it. THIS DEVICE is terrific. 4) Easy PIC'n & PIC'n UP THE PACE. These two books from SQUARE 1 are written to teach users the gentle art (???) of programming PIC chips in ASSEMBLER. Both books are well written and logically presented. Both books are targetted at those who wish to learn assembler, and those who need some ideas about interfacing certain peripheral devices to PICs. RECOMMENDED for anyone brave enough to delve into the fascinating world of PIC assembly. 5) NUTS and VOLTS MAGAZINE. This mag from the USA (see web page) is probably the best and most interesting mag I have come across for anyone at all interested in GADGET electronics and amateur robotics. If you enjoy FUN electronics, this is the best mag on the market. NO, I am not involved in the sale of any of these products. I usually get my supplies from DONTRONICS Australia who's mail order service is second to none. Hope this info is of use to anyone thinking of using any of the above products.
